Subject: Language Arts and Social Studies

Objective:

Students will learn about the history of a variety of food items. They will be able to link food items to historical facts. They will write their own articles to compliment this assignment.

Introduction:

1. Ask students why the titles of newspaper articles tend to be short. Read a short newspaper article that your students will be interested in. Have them brainstorm an appropriate title. Afterwards, tell them the actual title given. You might consider having the students vote on the best title.

2. Ask them what makes them read a newspaper or magazine article.

3. Let the students know they will be given an assignment that will involve the reproduction of a newspaper with several articles. They will be expected to choose pictures that compliment the written material. They will also be expected to choose appropriate titles for each article.
